Fishing

The waters of Little Long Lake and the Pickerel River System is one of Northern Ontario’s best kept secrets! There is over 40 miles of interconnecting lakes and rivers to fish right from our dock. From the waters of Little Long Lake, to Toad Lake, to Wilson Lake, Duck Lake, and to Dollars Lake to Kawigamog, and the Pickerel River just to mention a few, there are lots of places to fish and explore.

The waters include fishing opportunities for Bass, Pickerel (Walleye), Northern Pike, Whitefish and various pan fish. Because of the size of the lakes the water is always fairly calm and great for fishing in any type of weather.  Check out all the Fish Pictures!

Yes we have boat & mercury motor rentals, docking and boat launch onsite.  See Boat Rental Rates under accommodation rates section. Note that our cottage rental rates include a standard 14 foot boat  with a 9.9 hp mercury motor rental. We have larger boats available for an upgrade with all the goodies (fish finders, trolling motors etc).

We sell ice, bait, tackle and fishing & hunting licenses onsite for your convenience.

Are you the adventurous type? For something different try fishing in one of our back lake boats.  A short hike in on a trail will bring you to Etta Lake or Lake Aurther for some awesome fishing on a remote lake.  Or take a canoe over to Rainy Lake or Balsam Lake for the day.

Do you need a Boater's Licence?  By 2009 everyone will need to have their boater's licence. Currently, a Pleasure Craft Operator Card is not required in order to operate a rented watercraft (this may change in the future). Instead, it is sufficient for a renter to complete a rental safety checklist (essentially a condensed boating safety course).   We do this with you upon your arrival and go over the operation and safety of the boat until we are sure you are comfortable with it.  However we strongly advise you to take the boater's exam online, it is an easy quick way to obtain your licence and relatively inexpensive ($49).  Eventually as the deadline date approachs it will likely become more expensive.  Taking the course now will give you valuable knowledge about the safe operation of a watercraft.

Pickerel Restocking

Northern Lights participates in the Loring Restoule Walleye Enhancement Program. The program is intended to improve and protect pickerel fishing in our area lakes . Each spring thousands and thousands of pickerel fingerlings are released into the lake right in front of the resort. The hatchery is located at 93 Brown Drive in Loring 1 km east of Northern Lights and is open to the public during the spring spawning period.  This non profit organization is run by volunteers and needs your support. You can help by purchasing tickets for the annual 50/50 draw.  Tickets are available at Northern Lights and various locations around Port Loring and Restoule.
